Instructions

1

Preparation

20 min.

Peel onions and cut off the root and stem ends. Slice into uniform rings of 3-4 mm thickness using a sharp knife or mandoline. Separate the rings and lay them side by side on the dehydrator trays.

2

Dehydrating

10-14 hours

Set the dehydrator to 55-65 °C and dry the onions until they are completely brittle and dry. Rotate the trays halfway through to ensure even drying.

3

Grinding and Storing

10 min.

Grind completely cooled onion chips in small batches in a spice grinder or high-performance blender until fine. Sift through a fine sieve. Store in dry, airtight containers at room temperature for up to 12 months.

Pro Tip

Yellow onions produce a robust powder, white onions a milder one. Shallots work wonderfully for a sweet onion powder.
