Quatre Épices French Spice Blend

Classic French four-spice blend of pepper, nutmeg, ginger and cloves, traditionally used for terrines, pâtés, game meat and pork.
Ingredients(for 0.1 kg)
Instructions
Grating nutmeg
3 MinutenGrate the nutmeg freshly on a fine grater or nutmeg grater and place the powder in a bowl. Freshly grated nutmeg is significantly more aromatic than pre-ground.
Mixing
3 MinutenAdd white pepper, ginger, ground cloves and allspice to the freshly grated nutmeg in the bowl and mix all ingredients evenly with a spoon or small whisk.
Filling and Storage
2 MinutenFill the finished Quatre Épices blend into a dark, airtight screw-top jar, label it and store cool and protected from light. Shelf life approx. 6 months, after which the aroma fades.
Pro Tip
For the authentic French version, slightly reduce the clove amount and replace black pepper with white pepper – this creates a more elegant, less pungent profile that excels especially in charcuterie applications.
